Enameller and Metalsmith

Sachiko Chino has been a jewellery designer and manufacturer and enameller for more than 20 years. Her work ranges from cloisonné, jewellery, to objets d’art and two dimensional objects.

Sachiko was born in Nagano, Japan and was educated as a jeweller in the United States. In 1988 she attended the Fashion Institute of Technology and the Parsons School of Design in New York City and graduated from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in 1990 with a diploma as a Graduate Gemologist (G.G.). After graduation, she moved to Tokyo where she started her career as a designer and product planner for several jewellery companies until 1994 when she moved back to Nagano to work in the retail sector of the field. Sachiko has been creating enamels since 1994 when she started learning the technique from distinguished Japanese craftsmen.

In 1997 Sachiko decided to focus on her enamel techniques and to open her studio, Atelier Terra. She has exhibited her jewel and enamel work in numerous galleries and crafts fairs in Tokyo and Nagano, Japan. In 2002 she moved to Florence, Italy in order to develop her metalsmithing techniques at the Bino Bini Scuola Internazionale dell’Arte dei Metalli and other professional laboratories. In 2003 Sachiko began teaching enamelling at Le Arti Orafe Jewellery Academy in Florence and has taken part in group exhibitions such as the Inhorgenta Europe 2004 in Munich, Germany. In 2012 she became a Certified Art Clay Instructor ( Aida, Japan ).

Sachiko is a member of the Guild of Enamellers in the UK, an Alumni Association Member of the Gemological Institute of America in the USA and Japan. She is a Certified Instructor in Art Clay Silver and a current member of the Art Clay Japan and the Artclay World Europe.
